Hydro Sprigging
Spray-Rooted Turf Solutions with Live Stolons – Rapid Growth, Stronger Turf
Hydro Sprigging (Stolon) is a professional turfgrass planting method designed for large-scale areas where rapid, durable grass establishment is essential. Unlike traditional seeding, this method uses live stolons — horizontal stems capable of producing new grass shoots — suspended in a nutrient-rich slurry composed of water, mulch, fertilizer, and tackifiers. Using high-pressure hydraulic equipment, this mixture is sprayed evenly across the prepared soil surface, allowing the stolons to make direct contact with the soil and root quickly.
This technique is ideal for warm-season turfgrasses such as Sea Spray® Paspalum, Tifway 419 Bermuda, and other varieties that thrive in challenging environments including sandy soils, coastal zones, and erosion-prone landscapes.

This method is ideal for establishing grass varieties that cannot be propagated by seed, such as hybrid Bermudagrass. It offers greater customization by controlling stolon density and slurry composition. Hydro sprigging is often preferred in golf course renovations and sports turf reconstruction. It’s also more sustainable than sod due to reduced transport and harvesting impacts.
SMOOTH ESTABLISHMENT & RESILIENCE
Dense Turf Coverage with Rapid Root Development
One of the main advantages of hydro sprigging is its ability to establish dense, high-quality turf in areas where sod installation or manual stolon planting is impractical. It significantly accelerates establishment time compared to traditional methods, with visible root development occurring within 2 to 4 weeks under optimal conditions. This process also reduces soil erosion, improves moisture retention, and promotes even grass coverage across difficult terrains such as slopes, sports fields, and golf courses. When combined with Çimser’s expert turf maintenance services — including vertical mowing, aeration, and fertilization — hydro sprigging provides long-term performance and aesthetic value, delivering resilient, lush green spaces with maximum efficiency.

Stolon
Stolon is originally an English word which means ‘BRANCH’. Stolons are creeping stems which grow at the soil surface or just below ground that form adventitious roots at the nodes, and new plants from the buds. Stolons are often called runners.
Stolons with the height of 10-15 cm are pulled off carefully without damaging the roots and transferred to new plantation areas.
Hydroseeding – Hydrosprigging is the best way of installing large turfgrass areas.

Advantages
- Stolon is a living material, so rooting and development occur quickly
- Being moist, stolons establish faster than seeds when adequately watered
- Helps prevent soil erosion
- Highly effective for hillsides and sloping areas
- Contributes to soil health as bark mulch decomposes into organic matter (humus)
- Cost-effective solution
- Creates dense, healthy, vibrant, and visually rich turf
- Quick, economical, and easy to apply
